On March 1, 2026, multiple explosions were heard by residents of Dubai and plumes of smoke were visible from many locations in the city. Sounds similar to those of aircraft discharging ammunition following interception of projectiles resulted in residents of Dubai thinking that air defence activities occurred as missiles and/or drones were being targeted at them.
Video and eyewitness accounts demonstrate that black smoke was rising from numerous parts of the city, such as Palm Jumeirah and Jebel Ali, which is very surprising for a city with the stability and cosmopolitan nature of Dubai.
A statement released by the Dubai Media Office (DMO) reported that there had been numerous interceptions of projectiles and debris resulting from those interceptions causing fires and similar events in areas with large concentrations of people located adjacent to the major inter-status port and/or major hotel district.
Areas Affected
- 1. Palm Jumeirah – Luxury hotel and other areas, where there were at least four injuries reported according to local sources.
- 2. Jebel Ali Port – There was an explosion/debris from one of the interceptions or materials causing the ignition of an explosion in the general vicinity of one or more shipping berths; Civil Defence Team is already on site controlling and attempting to mitigate the fire damage.
- 3. Burj Al Arab – An explosive device or something similar was also reported in close proximity to the Burj Al Arab, with both debris obviously present and a minor fire reported to have been created due to the interception.

There were reports of smoke being seen throughout the area surrounding Dubai International Airport as well as concerns about a potential air strike occurring over the airport, although no confirmed hit was available at the time of publishing.
Context: Regional Tension Escalating Dramatically in the Middle East Related to U.S, Israel’s’ and Iran’s Escalations of the existing Conflict
A sharp escalation in these respective Middle Eastern conflicts (the U.S. and its Allies, i.e. the UAE and Israel, against Iran) is occurring resulting from a large volume of missiles and drones having been launched from Iran across the Middle East (Gulf region), in retaliation for the recent (August 30th, 2023) U.S. and Israeli strike on Iranian territory.
Additionally, there were also reports of multiple explosions occurring within Doha, Qatar and Manama, Bahrain, which produced plumes of smoke – suggesting that there are numerous Gulf cities (including Kuwait City) that are being affected.
The Gulf Arab Nations that host United States military bases have also been targeted in these missile attacks – highlighting the growing potential for an expanded conflict throughout the region.
Government officials throughout the Gulf Region have stated that most of the incoming projectiles were shot down through military defense systems; but that associated debris has fallen to the ground producing fires, damaging structures and injuring civilians.

Public Alerts and Concerns of Misinformation Online – As a result of the heightened anxiety of citizens and residents in the UAE, the UAE government has warned citizens about the use of unverified online sources of information, stating there could be legal consequences for spreading false information. They have evacuated keys to their kingdoms. In tandem with the emergency services’ response, the iconic buildings (including the Burj Khalifa) are being evacuated by our team.

Next Steps
We will continue monitoring this scenario, with all parties interacting to maintain safety and control. Intense hostility could lead to more violence in Gulf cities as well. After continual monitoring of the Gulf region as well as communications through the mass media, each government asks its residents to remain alert and to heed the advice/instructions of their respective Authorities.
Officials from the various authorities have said that as each person comes and goes, information will be released through authorized channels as new and verified information becomes available.
