Afghanistan’s Taliban regime stated that its forces have undertaken major offensives against Pakistani military installations located on the Durand Line due to the recent bombardments carried out by the Pakistani military in this area. Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban, has indicated that Afghan forces had taken several Pakistani outposts from the Pakistani army and caused a large number of Pakistani casualties as a consequence of what the Taliban considers to be repeated acts of provocation and violations of Afghan sovereignty. The Taliban has described these offensives as defensive actions taken against the continued bombardment by Pakistan.
In direct contradiction to what Afghanistan has described, the government of Pakistan has asserted that the Afghan Taliban commenced unprovoked attacks on multiple locations along the border with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and that its security forces acted immediately and effectively to stop the assault and protect its territorial integrity. Pakistan does not agree with the Taliban’s assertions that it has lost soldiers or has suffered any significant loss of personnel and insists that it caused significant damage to Afghan forces through Pakistan’s retaliatory response to the attacks by the Taliban..
Escalation Followed Pakistani Airstrikes Inside Afghanistan
Tensions continue to rise between Pakistan and Afghanistan as border clashes become increasingly common; this follows Pakistan’s recent cross-border airstrikes targeting militant hideouts inside Afghanistan associated with the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and IS-Khorasan. According to Islamabad, these strikes killed multiple militants, whose presence poses a serious threat to the safety of Pakistani citizens. Furthermore, Pakistan maintains that the actions taken are in line with international norms and would protect its citizens from terrorist actions originating within Afghanistan.

Civilian Impact and Regional Security Risks
Recent cross-border bombardments have resulted in further escalation along the border, contributing to the instability that characterizes this region. Both sides have exchanged accusations of wrongdoing; Pakistan accuses Afghans of providing sanctuary to terrorists; Afghanistan accuses Pakistan of deliberately attacking non-combatants. Diplomatic channels remain strained; there appears to be no immediate prospect for de-escalation.
International and independent reports suggest that as a result of the recent cross-border airstrikes, civilian losses, including women and children, have occurred. International fears are growing that continued violence will disrupt trade routes and further exacerbate the humanitarian crisis experienced by communities along the border.
