An important member of the Samajwadi Party in Pratapgarh, Lal Bahadur Yadav, died in a terrible accident. The accident happened in the busy Babuganj market area, where a huge lighting pole fell on his moving car.
Yadav, who is 48 years old, was driving on Sunday afternoon and saw a gas station close to his house. In a matter of seconds, what looked like normal installation work changed into a deadly disaster that shocked everyone nearby.
Police said the boss died right there because of how hard the blow hit him. As soon as word got out about the quick loss, it drew fans and locals to the scene.
The Story of How the Pole Fell
Officials and onlookers say that in front of the gas store, a high-mast pole, which is about 65 feet tall and very heavy, was being put up. The structure was moved by a crane, and workers were putting it in place when a key strap allegedly broke.
Because of the break, the pole lost its balance and fell right on Yadav’s SUV as it went by. The weight of the car crushed the front part of it, leaving the driver with little chance of survival.
People in the area rushed to the rubble, but the damage was so bad that it was almost impossible to save anyone. Other commuters, including people on two-wheelers and an e-rickshaw, were said to be only seconds away from the impact zone and barely made it out alive.
Because the fall happened so quickly, it’s unclear whether enough safety measures were taken during the installation.

Angry, sad, and with questions
Not long after the accident, family members and party workers met, and many of them looked clearly shaken. What started out as sadness quickly turned into anger when it was said that the work wasn’t being done safely or with traffic control in place.
People in the area said that such a big, heavy structure should never have been moved in a busy, open market without blocking the way or stopping cars. A number of locals called for harsh punishments if carelessness is proven.
The mood stayed tight for a while as cops tried to control the crowd and get the wrecked car out of the way.
Ordered to probe
Police said the body was taken for a post-mortem while they started getting information from workers, crane operators, and the managers of the gas stations. Statements from observers are also being written down.
There will be an investigation to find out if safety rules were broken and who should be held accountable for the fatal mistake. Officials in charge of administration said that responsibility will be set once the study is over.
Yadav was well-known in the political world in the area and had run for office there before. His friends are shocked by his quick death; many of them said he was busy and easy to reach in public life.
