BIG BANG — A R Rahman, an Oscar-winning musician, said that people have had different emotions to the historical film Chhaava, but he also said that writing the music for the movie was an honor. His comments come at a time when people are still arguing about the movie’s ideas, story choices, and language use.
Regarding the divided audience response, Rahman says
When asked how people felt about the movie, Rahman said that different people had different thoughts on it. He said that movies based on historical or cultural stories often get strong responses because they play with identity, beliefs, and shared memories. He said that these kinds of movies will always inspire discussion and close examination.
Rahman also said that viewers can form their own opinions and are not easily swayed by the way movies are framed. He said that watchers have a judgmental side that lets them tell the difference between tale and purpose.
Composing for Chhaava described as a special occasion
Despite the negative reviews, Rahman said he was proud to be a part of Chhaava, the movie about the life of Maratha hero Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. He said the subject was emotionally powerful and historically important. As an artist, working on a movie about such a person had a lot of value for him.
The artist made it clear that he was involved because he respected the history and saw it as an honor to use music to tell a story about bravery, sacrifice, and strength.

Thoughts on the Use of Religious Words in Scenes
Rahman also answered complaints about the use of words like “Subhanallah” in scenes that showed bad people or deeds. Some watchers and critics didn’t like the use because they thought it supported stereotypes.
In response, Rahman called this kind of use “cringe” and agreed that it can seem overused. Obviously, he agreed that directors need to be careful when using sacred phrases, especially when they could be hurtful.
More Talk About Movies and Responsibility
Beyond music, the discussion about Chhaava has grown to include bigger questions about who is responsible for making movies. People have praised the movie’s size, acting, and box office success, but some have said it mishandles the story and has political themes.
Rahman thought about how the Hindi film business has changed over the years and said that movies today work in a world of high knowledge and quick public response. He said it again: he likes working on projects that don’t intentionally stir up hate or division. This shows how important purpose is in artistic work.
