The first big smartphone event of 2026 is here. Today, January 8th, POCO opens up the curtain on its most ambitious M-series phone yet: POCO M8 5G Previously known for offering high-performance “budget beasts,” this year POCO is changing tack a bit and paying extra attention to premium design and durability, in addition to that usual raw power.
The countdown for the launch event has already begun with all its hustle and bustle in the tech world ahead of the event starting on Monday at 12 PM IST. From razor-thin profile options, to a display that competes with the rest of industry leaders, the POCO M8 5G isn’t just another iterative update – it’s a statement.
Slim, Sleek and Durable: The New Design
This is the first time an M-series phone has been billed as a “design icon.” The company has further mentioned that M8 5G is the slimmest phone in its category, which comes with a thickness of 7.35mm and weighs at just 178 grams.
But do not be deceived by the “lightweight” moniker. The device is constructed like a tank, with SGS MIL-STD-810 military-grade drop certification and IP66 rating for dust and water resistance. Whether you get caught in a rainstorm or inadvertently knock it off a table, the M8 5G is built to withstand abuse. Will be sold on Flipkart in 3 colours –
- Carbon Black (textured, carbon-fibe look)
- Glacial Blue
- Frost Silver
A Feast for Your Eyes: 3D Curve AMOLED Screen
The POCO M8 5G’s main attraction is indeed the phone’s 6.77-inch display that has a 3D Curved AMOLED glass panel on top of it. Typically restricted to significantly pricier phones, this curved panel lends the device a premium, bezel-free appearance.
Its processing power is class leading:
- Brightness at its peak: An astounding ~3200-nit brightness makes it even more visible under 12PM sun.
- Refresh Rate: 120Hz for ultra-fluid scrolling and gaming.
- Color Accuracy: Support for 100 percent of the DCI-P3 color space.
- Wet Touch 2.0: A neat feature that lets you control the screen accurately even when your fingers are wet, like during monsoon season.
Performance and Endurance: Snapdragon 6 Gen 3/1.2 GHz (You can get a Gbit version)
Powering the M8 5G is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 SoC. According to POCO, it has an AnTuTu score that easily crosses 8,25,000 and is thanks to an 83 per cent performance increase over the old one. Paired with 8GB of physical RAM (and up to 8GB of virtual RAM expansion), the phone is set to tackle heavy multitasking and moderate-to-high-end gaming without breaking a sweat.
Among the most unexpected reveals is the software commitment. The M8 5G runs HyperOS 2.0 based on Android 15 software and is backed by a commitment for 4 years of Android update and patches support that lasts for 6 years. That in essence means it’s one of the most future-proof budget-to-mid-range phones available.

Expected Price and Availability in India
The official price will be unveiled at the event later today 12 PM but analysts in the markets and leaks point to a very aggressive strategy. The POCO M8 5G will reportedly be priced below ₹15,000 with launch offers.
This would have it going head to head with the Redmi Note 15 series, and Realme’s Narzo range. With a curved AMOLED display and military-grade certifications at this price, clearly POCO is trying to stir up the segment once.
