From Bottom of Table to Champions- A Fairytale Run
The Mumbai Smashers made a huge comeback in the first Indian Pickleball League. They went from finishing sixth in the group stage to winning the championship. They beat the Hyderabad Royals 5–1 in the final, held in a packed underground hall in Delhi. This made them the first IPBL winners. The win is a shocking turn of events for a team that didn’t look like it would be in the running early in the league season. They won many important fights by knockout, showing they were tough and could work together under pressure.

Smashers win the finals from start to finish.
Mumbai got off to a great start in the finals. Their best singles player, Quang Duong, beat the other team 15–4 to give the Smashers an early lead. His next win was in men’s doubles, this time with partner Ammol Ramchandani. They beat the Royals’ pair 15–10, putting Mumbai in complete control of the tie at 2–0.
The Royals won the women’s singles match thanks to Megan Fudge’s class, but Mumbai came back in the women’s doubles match. When the Smashers were down in the middle of the set, Allison Harris and Pearl Amalsadiwala came back to win 15–10, putting them ahead 3–1.
Mumbai quickly took a 6–1 lead in the Grand Rally, which was the last race. Even though Hyderabad came back to tie the game at 5–8, the Smashers never let up. They slowly built up a big lead, and with a 21–14 win, they won the title. It was a perfect end to an amazing season.
Strong Performances and Individual Awards
Quang Duong was a big part of the Smashers’ victory, with his perfect league singles record and strong performance on the final night. He was named Male MVP and Best Men’s Singles Player for playing the same way in every match. Another great player was Pearl Amalsadiwala from Mumbai. She helped her team win important points in doubles. The winner was Megan Fudge from Hyderabad, who was named Female MVP. The Indian team won in the end, in part because of the pair match between Harris and Pearl. How well the Smashers performed under a lot of stress shows they have a wide range of players with diverse skills.
