It looks like the Mumbai Indians are probably going to need to find another captain sooner than later, as there have been several reports of the franchise actively searching for someone other than Hardik Pandya to lead the team during the upcoming I.P.L. season.
According to sources, HBO may be re-evaluating Pandya’s captaincy position throughout the course of this past year, which was likely one of the organization’s poorest seasons from a performance perspective, as they finished in 9th position out of 10 overall at the conclusion of the I.P.L. season and had only 4 wins with 10 losses at the end of the season.
Since Pandya took over as captain from Rohit Sharma right before the 2024 I.P.L. season began, he has gotten quite a bit of negative criticism regarding how he has handled the team in games. Many analysts even said that he has not been able to handle the pressures of the game on a regular basis during games. Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has suggested that MI (Mumbai Indians) should look for alternatives and name Jasprit Bumrah as its captain because of his overall experience and his ability to read the game.
In addition to Bumrah’s support, others in the cricketing world are looking for Suryakumar Yadav to assume the role of MI captain due to his recent experience as captain of the Indian T20 national team.

Social media is in complete disarray over the reports surrounding the MI franchise for the IPL season. Many fans feel that MI needs to change its name; there are many opponents to this notion. A section of fans feels that Hardik Pandya was miscast as MI captain and that the seamless transition from ex-captain Rohit Sharma was poorly executed and put undue stress on an already divided squad.
Supporters agree that Pandya had better success at leading the Gujarat Titans because he led a championship team during their first season in the IPL. Meanwhile, online conversations are overwhelmingly in favor of placing Jasprit Bumrah into the role of MI captain.
