In the sensational death case of model-turned-actor Twisha Sharma, her husband, Samarth Singh, has been arrested after he arrived at a court in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. The arrest comes almost ten days after Twisha was found dead at her matrimonial home in Bhopal, from which there have been numerous accusations regarding dowry related harassment and complaints of the actions of Samarth.
Dramatic Surrender Attempt Jabalpur
Samarth Singh arrived at the Jabalpur District Court (Friday) to surrender himself, following withdrawing an anticipatory bail application from the Madhya Pradesh High Court. However, the District Court advised him to surrender to the appropriate court in Bhopal, which is where his case is being investigated. Immediately after this advice, a team from the Bhopal police was able to take custody of Mr. Singh with the assistance of the local police, who were already in Jabalpur.
Eyewitnesses have reported that there were very dramatic scenes at the Jabalpur District Court, where journalists and lawyers were anxiously waiting to see Samarth arrive there with “a cap, sunglasses and covered face,” which were all attempts to conceal his identity. He was then taken to a local police precinct before he will be taken back to Bhopal for subsequent legal proceedings.

Twisha Sharma (33) died in her in-laws’ home on May 12 while undergoing dowry-related harassment from her husband and mother-in-law(Giribala Singh-a retired judge). As a result of the family’s complaint, an FIR against both parties has been filed with respect to their involvement in dowry-related killings and promoting suicide through assistance.
The family of Twisha Sharma has since raised national awareness about alleged attempts from some of Sarbananda’s people to disrupt the investigation. They are requesting a full, transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Twisha’s death and are seeking a second postmortem examination of the body as well as a possible transfer of the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Since the filing of the FIR, the police department had been heavily scrutinized because of the time taken to apprehend Samarth Singh, leading to them creating multiple teams in an effort to apprehend him. To that end, they posted a reward for information leading to his arrest, initially at ₹10,000 before increasing the amount to ₹30,000 later.
The police department assures the public of its commitment to making every possible effort to find him; however, there has been widespread dissatisfaction about the fact that it has taken the police department so long to appreend Samarth Singh. The arrest of Samarth Singh is being viewed by many law enforcement officials as an important next step in the investigation.

Bar Council Suspends Samarth Singh
The Bar Council of India has also suspended Samarth Singh’s ability to practice law immediately. The pressure from the public and the seriousness of the allegations surrounding Twisha Sharma’s death have created a need for disciplinary action.
