Fans Shocked as Premiere Cancelled Overnight
All the opening shows for the much-anticipated Telugu movie Akhanda 2, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, were cancelled hours before they were scheduled to start on December 4. People in India who had already bought tickets were let down when the makers, under pressure from new legal developments, announced that the show would be postponed indefinitely. That’s right, the movie won’t be coming out in theatres around the world on December 5.

Madras High Court’s Injunction Behind Sudden Halt
The movie’s release was temporarily put off after Eros International Media Limited filed a lawsuit, prompting the Madras High Court to issue an injunction. Eros said that the production company, 14 Reels Plus LLP, owed it a large sum due to an unfinished arbitration ruling from earlier. The court order stops the movie from being shown in public, digitally streamed, or sent to satellites until the debts are paid, which are estimated at about ₹28 crore plus interest. This means that the movie can’t legally be shown, which means that all plans to release it are thrown out.
