Historical Significance and Operation Trident Legacy:
Navy’s Day trace the roots back to those nights of December 4-5, 1971, where three intrepid missile boats- INS Nirghat, INS Nirpat, and INS Veer- armed with Soviet-supplied Styx missiles, ventured into enemy’s water. It was lead by Commander Babru Bhan Yadav, the flotilla sank PNS Khaibar, PNS Muhafiz and a fuel tanker, marking the first combat use of anti-ship missiles globally. This operational helped to boost national morale during the birth of Bangladesh, which shifted our naval balance in.
In these 54 years, Navy Day has grown from tributes to vibrant spectacles, rotating venues. Past events in Vishakhapatnam and Goa drew lakhs attention but Kerala hosting-first in South India-signals outreach to other coastal communities, highlighting Navy’s role in human lives such as disaster reliefs (HADR) and anti-piracy ops in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
