Protest Called Off After 11 Days
The 11th day of Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati’s protest in Prayagraj was the last day. He then went for Kashi. The protest began when there was a disagreement with the mela management about how to set up the traditional bath at the Sangam. The seer had been sitting in protest since January 18, asking for answers about how he thought the authorities were treating him badly.
He told her before he left that he was going with a sad heart and a lot of mental pain. He said for sure that he would not do the holy dip at the Sangam because the rite needs peace of mind, which he did not have anymore.
Dispute Over Plans for Sangam Bathing
The problem began on Mauni Amavasya, when the Shankaracharya was on his way to the Sangam to take a holy bath. It is said that because there were so many people, officials asked him to get off his palanquin and walk. His fans were very upset about the move and said it was rude.
Supporters and police officers got into a fight as the situation got worse. Later, notices were sent out asking for papers linked to his name and job, which made things even worse. After what happened, the Shankaracharya started a sit-in protest outside his mela camp.

Holy Dip Cancelled Because of Emotional Stress
After 11 days of protest, the seer told everyone at the Sangam that he was leaving without taking a bath. He said that doing religious practices takes a calm mind and high spiritual awareness, which he didn’t have after what happened.
Despite the fact that the holy dip is very spiritually important, he said that his bad mood made it impossible for him to do it honestly. Many of his followers were upset by his choice, but he said it was the only option given the situation.
The administrative offer was turned down
Later, the mela administration offered to set up a visit to the Sangam for a formal event with top officials in attendance. The Shankaracharya, on the other hand, turned down the offer, saying that his objection was not about special treatment or following the rules.
He said that all he wanted was an explanation and a recognition of what happened, not some kind of symbolic action. He also said that accepting the offer without dealing with the main problem would be against his beliefs.
Leaving and Reactions
After he left for Kashi, his followers took down the camp and left the mela area. Different faith leaders, followers, and government figures had different opinions on how to handle the situation after the event.
The event brought attention to how hard it can be to handle large religious meetings while still honoring customs. The events at the Magh Mela are still being talked about a lot, even though the Shankaracharya has moved on to Kashi.
