In the always-cutthroat realm of high performance smartphone, OnePlus is said to be about to unleash a monster to change mobile gaming forever. Rumours blowing in from the tech supply chain suggest that a gaming-focused device is in the wings, with a spec sheet that sounds straight out of an esports fanboi’s dream: 165Hz refresh rate screen running on a MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chip and—most interestingly—an active cooling fan.
In the past, OnePlus has expressed its commitment to delivering smooth experiences through software, but this new project suggests it’s beginning to take the hardcore gaming landscape seriously and could help OnePlus challenge industry heavyweights such as the ASUS ROG Phone lineup.
The Beast’s Heart: Dimensity 9500
This mystery device reportedly packs a punch with the freshly-announced MediaTek Dimensity 9500 at its heart. This flagship processor is built on a leading-edge 3nm process and will compete head-to-head with the most powerful Qualcomm has to offer.
Why the Dimensity 9500 Matters:
- All-Big-Core architecture: Building on the success of the 9400, the 9500 employs an octa-core design with high-performance prime cores running at up to 4.21 GHz.”
- Ray Tracing Supremacy: The incredible integrated GPU is capable of 120FPS ray-tracing, so you can experience console quality lighting and reflection effects within your favorite mobile titles.
- AI Performance: The chip is furnished with a 9th generation NPU that can carry out heavy AI computations using far less power compared to the previous generations.
- 165Hz: Seeing is Believing
The screen will be a 6.78-inch 1.5K LTPS flat OLED panel, at least in our case to come. With 120Hz now being the norm, and going to 165Hz giving you that extra edge in competitive shooter games and fast-paced action titles.
The screen can dynamically change refresh rates (e.g., 30Hz, 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz and up to the maximum of 165Hz) thanks to LTPS (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon) technology depending on what you’re doing. That way, you’re getting that buttery smooth gaming experience all day long and your battery isn’t dwindling down pointlessly as you scroll through Twitter.
Active Cooling: A “Fan-tastic” Addition
One of the more unexpected leaks is a built-in active cooling fan. Heat is performance’s natural enemy: When a phone gets too hot, the processor “throttles,” or slows down, to prevent damage. Which contributes as frames drops and lag.
And by including a physical fan, which is something dedicated gaming phones often have, OnePlus is suggesting this thing can handle nonstop marathon-like gaming sessions. Coupled with a rumor 360° Cryo Velocity Cooling System, the phone apparently wants to keep itself “ice cold” even when under pressure from your most hectic Genshin Impact or PUBG matches.
Battery Life That Doesn’t Quit
A 165Hz screen and a cooling fan — you’ll need a massive fuel tank to power that. Leaks from tipsters such as Digital Chat Station indicate that OnePlus is experimenting with a 9,000mAh-class battery.
That’s quite an increase from the staple 5,000mAh or 5,500mAh batteries seen in today’s flagships. And doing so without croaking from the extra weight may be due in part to Silicon-Carbon (Si-C) battery tech, which can pack more capacity into a smaller form factor. That’s a lot of power, but even with that huge capacity the latest details suggest the device will still bring at least 80W to 100W fast charging.
Most of you wish the OnePlus 16 would adopt this instead of a 240 Hz display
What is the Marketing Name?
A lot of speculation is doing rounds on which phone this would be in the OnePlus line-up.
- OnePlus Turbo 6 / 6V: Chine speculations are quite new and they hint towards a “Turbo” series for young gamers.
- OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra: In certain regions, including China, OnePlus may release this top-tier performer under “Ace” naming.
- OnePlus 14/15 Special Edition: It’s also feasible this tech could emerge in a “Pro” or “Ultra” model of the main flagship series later in the year.
With the mobile gaming industry on a full-blown explosion, it looks like OnePlus is preparing itself to shed its “refined flagship” persona in favor of something a little more aggressive. This has so far forced its “Never Settle” slogan to apply only to those who’ve dared to play at the highest levels without a cooling accessory.
