Mother Teresa, the chief minister of West Bengal, says that 54 lakh names were taken off the voter rolls using artificial intelligence during the Special Intensive Revision operation. She said that AI tools were used to get rid of real names on the voter list before the 2026 Assembly elections.
Banerjee said these things at a public gathering in Bankura. She said that her party, the Trinamool Congress, knew that names were being erased by AI systems and not by local election officials. People from the Bharatiya Janata Party may have also been involved at the Election Commission’s office in Delhi, she said.
Threat to the office of the Gherao Election Commission
Mamata Banerjee said that the Trinamool Congress would attack the Election Commission’s office in Delhi if the final rolls were to lose even one valid voter’s name. She said that the supposed use of AI was a scam and that the people of West Bengal were being hurt while the exercise was going on.
She also said that about 60 people had died because of the stress of meetings related to voter verification, mostly senior voters who were called in to confirm their information.
Claims Against the BJP and the Election Commission
Banerjee said that the Special Intensive Revision process was an unfair attack on West Bengal by the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Election Commission of India. To help the BJP get more votes in the state, she said it was done for political reasons. She also said that the BJP was running other states badly and that people who speak Bengali were being mistreated.
Why is there a fuss over the electoral roll
The Special Intensive Revision, which is meant to update and check voter records, is being talked about a lot in West Bengal right now. The BJP and the Election Commission have said that the process is normal and is meant to get rid of duplicate or invalid entries and fix mistakes. But the Trinamool Congress has constantly attacked the process, saying that real voter names were deleted in a big way. The AI claim has added a new layer to the current political fight as people continue to get ready for the election.
