Kangana Ranaut is claiming her place on a new stage as she prepares to embody one of the lesser-known heroes from the 2008 Mumbai Terror Attack. Kangana’s upcoming film Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata is about Anjali Kulthe, a nurse who risked her life to care for patients during the horrific event that took place on November 26, 2008.
The film will highlight the humanitarian actions of the hospital staff members at both Cama and Albless hospitals as they fought to save lives in the midst of terrorist attacks occurring throughout the city of Mumbai.
Who is Anjali Kulthe?
Anjali Kulthe was a nurse at Cama Hospital and was working during the night of the November 26th attacks in Mumbai when the terrorists began their consecutive attack on the city. When the hospital was inundated with fear and the sounds of gunfire echoing through the hospital, Kulthe’s instinct was to muster all of her resources to care for the patients entrusted to her care.
What started as a regular shift, turned into an issue of life and death. During the attack, reports began to surface of terrorist activity surrounding the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and making their way towards Cama hospital. Kulthe had the presence of mind in that instant, despite the confusion in the hospital, to keep the patients under her care safe and taken care of, specifically the pregnant women admitted at Cama.

Saving 20 Pregnant Women Amid Terror
Reports reveal that Kulthe transferred roughly 20 expectant mothers to a cramped food storage area inside the hospital, where they remained obscured by complete darkness, with all electric lights off, and their mobile phones turned off in order not to attract attention to them while all of this was happening as they were still in hiding – under current conditions of extreme terror – outside the hospital in Delhi.
The determination shown by Kulthe with regards to the mothers was commended as an impressive manifestation of bravery and dedication during one of India’s most unbelievable nights!

Film Brings an Untold 26/11 Story to the Big Screen
Soon after the circumstances changed, there was yet another hurdle added to them: A mother who has been diagnosed with severe hypertension & in labour with no possibility of a doctor attending to her waiting to give birth. Whilst gunfire was preventing the doctors from attending to the mother, Kulthe decided to be there for both. Kulthe assisted the woman throughout her delivery via a dangerous journey through a wrecked hospital.
Ultimately, the child, nicknamed “Goli” was born healthy on the day of the attacks on Delhi, and in keeping with traditions that have developed over the years, the child will be referred to as the “Child of Terror” until such time as the memories of 9/11 are erased from our minds.

Honouring Unsung Heroes of Cama Hospital
The 26/11 attacks are remembered for what occurred at the Taj Mahal Palace and some of the other well-known places involved, but not as many people know about the staff at Cama Hospital. This movie focuses on those workers, including nurses, ward boys, cleaners, security personnel and others who helped to protect the lives of the many who found refuge inside the hospital.
Director Manoj Tapadia has said that this project is intended to be a tribute to those everyday people who showed tremendous bravery in the face of violence and fear during those terrorist attacks. This movie will show how those who worked at Cama Hospital stood firm in their commitment to their jobs and their patients, even as they encountered severe danger themselves.
Kangana Ranaut Pays Tribute to the Everyday Brave Act of Courage
Kangana Ranaut plays a nurse based on Anjali Kulthe’s account of her experience in Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata. As Kangana has explained, she believes it is vital that we tell these stories in order to demonstrate how important the workers on the front lines of our healthcare system are, especially given that they often do not receive public recognition for their incredible acts of heroism.
The trailers for the movie depict a compelling and emotional story of the struggle to stay alive, sacrifice themselves, and the humanity of the people involved in the attacks. Instead of using traditional action heroes, the film will recognize those who were able to save lives by showing kindness, determination, and bravery.
Keeping Alive the Legacy of a Hero
More than 17 years after the Mumbai attacks, the story of Anjali Kulthe continues to shine. The story of how she acted during the 26/11 siege will now be widely shared through Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, ensuring that the heroic acts of the Cama Hospital staff will be known alongside other acts of heroism committed that fateful night.
