Before entering show business, Mouni Roy originally dreamed of becoming an IAS officer, but perhaps through the luck of fate she is now one of the hottest stars in the world, revealed the actress at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Academic Background and Unexpected Turn
In addition to the several years at Miranda House, where she studied for her Honours degree on English Language and Literature, Mouni also attended Jamia Millia Islamia and studied Mass Communication. During her years in college she was planning on a different kind of career path.
It was during one of her many performances at college where someone approached and informed her about auditions happening away from school, which would ultimately make her an overnight sensation.
A Roller Coaster Ride
“The journey to the top has been like riding a roller coaster,” said Mouni as she recalled how many specific challenges and accomplishments she has overcome during her career; she indicated that she has worked extremely hard the last few years to achieve her present level of accomplishment.
Public scrutiny and online harassment on social media were areas the actress discussed during the panel, specifically in relation to situations about her clothing choice for red carpet events and general public appearances. However, she also stated that she prefers to dress in a way that is true to herself (in terms of how she feels) rather than following current fashion trends.

Currently, Mouni is at the Cannes film festival where she is presenting her film “Bombay Stories.” She has termed it a “dream come true” to bring this project to Cannes; she said this trip feels extremely special to her as it is the first time she is attending the festival as part of her project, as opposed to being the brand ambassador for another project.
Mouni has indicated that “Bombay Stories” takes some inspiration from the works of Saadat Hasan Manto but did not provide any other concrete information about the film.
