The investigation of Twisha Sharma’s death is making significant progress. During the last three days, Samarth Singh, Twisha’s husband, has been interrogated more than ten (10) hours by the Madhya Pradesh Special Investigation Team (SIT). Due to recent national outcry over incidents related to dowry and abuse, the investigation has now been formally transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
CBI Assumes Control
Following the transfer of the investigation from the SIT, the CBI has officially re-registered the FIR. The CBI’s investigative team based in Delhi has gathered evidence and documents from the Bhopal Police that include medical records, technical items such as cell phone records, video footage from various locations, and forensic evidence. The FIR also includes statements and allegations concerning both dowry harassment and the potential circumstances surrounding Twisha’s death as well as information on her husband.
Over the past several weeks, the SIT has formally interrogated Samarth Singh many times while he was in police custody. During these interrogations, investigators noted a number of alleged inconsistiences in Samarth’s statements, as well as the fact he was missing immediately after the incident, that he had deleted all of his digital chats and that there was a noted history of problems in the couple’s marriage.
The main focus of the investigation into Samarth Singh has been around:
- the couple’s marriage,
- Twisha’s pregnancy at the time of her death, and
- the alleged claims made by Samarth about his wife’s mental health at the time.
According to Singh’s account, Twisha was in a distressed emotional state after her abortion, and that fact contributed to the breakdown of their relationship.
However, the investigators are looking into records from WhatsApp and other digital evidence which could potentially disprove Singh’s statements. For example, there are messages indicating arguments related to the pregnancy and allegations regarding the paternity of the unborn child.
Another focus of the investigation was Samarth Singh’s claims regarding Twisha Sharma’s mental health status. Singh stated that Twisha was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and had an adjustment disorder. Police are now working on verifying all the medical paperwork, prescriptions, and psychiatric evaluations to confirm if Singh’s reports on her treatment are true and reveal whether any treatment had been disclosed to her family.
In addition, the investigation is looking into claims about sleeping pills being given to Twisha and limitations on her ability to work and socialize after her marriage. Her family has made allegations of emotional abuse and coercive control in the home.

Crime Scene Reconstruction Raises Additional Questions
On Monday, the SIT did an extensive crime scene reconstruction at the couple’s home in Bhopal. According to officials, this exercise lasted over two hours, during which time Singh was asked to walk through the events that occurred on the day of Twisha’s death in chronological order.
According to sources linked to the investigation, Samarth was trying to mislead the officers during the reconstruction. Investigating officers are now comparing his version of events with CCTV recordings, call detail records, and forensic time frames.
The police have also reportedly seized Samarth Singh’s notebook, mobile telephone, and passport as part of an investigation into Twisha. Technical teams are trying to recover any deleted chats and/ or information on his equipment. Samarth Singh has been sent to Police remand for seven days, and the order of the Bhopal Court.
Besides the legal proceedings of Twisha Sharma, the Bar Council has also suspended Samarth Singh from the practice of law until the criminal trial is resolved.
Twisha’s family continues to ask the Police to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into Twisha’s death; Twisha’s brother has publicly questioned why Samarth Singh would flee right after Twisha’s death. He is also concerned that Samarth Singh was attempting to influence the investigation.

Voice clip made public
A voice clip has been made public recently, purportedly showing a verbal altercation between Twisha’s brother-in-law and their mother-in-law, retired Justice Giribala Singh. This revelation has prompted many people to call for accountability for those involved in this family’s affairs.
The family has also demanded that a second postmortem examination is carried out and that there will also be further forensic examination of the body; they claim that there may have been important evidence lost or ignored by investigators during the initial investigation.
This is a Critical Investigation
The CBI has now taken over the case, and their next steps will be to verify the forensic evidence collected from the interview with the deceased Samarth Singh, find any digital evidence that may have been erased or deleted, conduct a historical analysis of the medical leave records, and assess if there is any other possible evidence of dowry harassment or abuse. Additional witness interviews (family members, doctors, and other close friends of the couple) are also planned as part of their investigation.
This incident has caused a broader debate around issues of domestic violence, emotional manipulation, and women’s treatment within an abusive marriage. The investigative evidence will ultimately determine whether Twisha Sharma’s death was due to suicide due to harassment or whether there is a conspiracy to manufacture a more serious crime than the initial suicide attempt.
