A district Court recently decided in favour of the Pataudi family, concluding a case that had been ongoing for almost 25 years. The case was about who owned a 16.62-acre family farm in the Nayapura area of Bhopal.

The court turns down competing claims over ancestral property
Two different claims went to court in 1998 and said that the land had been given to their relatives by Nawab Hamidullah Khan, who used to be the master of Bhopal. Based on this claim, they tried to take over the land the Pataudi family already lived on.
The court looked into the case, though, and found that the claims didn’t include the proper legal papers or strong evidence to support them.
Why the judge ruled in favour of the Pataudi family
Part of the reason for the decision was that the other side had no written proof. The Court said that direct claims or old stories without official records can’t prove ownership in today’s courts.
The judge also said that disagreements over land must be raised within a reasonable time. The competing claim was made many years after the first one, so it did not meet the legal requirements for being brought in a timely manner. All of these things led to the case being thrown out.
Legal experts say the decision shows how important it is to have clear records and act fast in court cases, especially when the property in question is old royal or family property.
