BJP won most of the seats in Delhi MCD by polls today, which happened on 30th November, 2025. Vote counting has been finished this morning. Out of the 12 seats in MCD, Congress could hold only 1seat, AAP got a few (2-3) and most of them were won by BJP 7-9. AAP too could not be vanished along with Congress.

Picture of Delhi Politics:
Delhi’s politics is a three-way battle: BJP strong after 2025 assembly sweep, AAP fighting back on services, congress trying to come back. Low turnout means keen voters decided, often loyal to BJP in many areas. These polls keep buzzing. Delhi MCD held bypolls for 12 Wards on November 30, with vote counting on 3rd December revealing strong BJP performance amid competition from AAP and Congress.
Was the bypoll necessary?
These polls have filled 12 empty seats in the MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) and 11 of these seats were won by the Delhi Assembly or Parliament with gaps.
For example, Rekha Gupta, now a big leader, left her Shalimar Bagh B seat. This made the polls exciting as parties wanted to keep or grab power in MCD, which handles like city cleaning, roads, water, etc.
Although MCD is separate from Delhi government, but the results showed public mode on BJP’s big win in assembly polls on February 2025. MCD has 250 seats in total, BJP has 116, AAP 99, Congress 8 and Indraprastha Vikas Party 15.
Loss or Win?
BJP celebrated their wins over big margins. In Chandni Chowk, Suman Kumar Gupta beats AAP Harsh Sharma by 1,100+ votes.
Anita Jain took Shalimar Bagh B, EX-CM Gupta’s seat. Rekha Rani won Dichaon Kalan by 5,637 votes (15,282 vs AAP’s 9,645)
Other BJP picks: Shalimar Bagh, Dwarka B Mundka, Ashok Vihar. Early trends had BJP leading with 7, AAP 4 and others1.
AAP retrained Dakshinpuri with Ramswaroop Kanojia and Vinod Nagar. Congress had ended a winless run in Sangam Vihar A via Suresh Choudhury. Key wards like Chandni Mahal and Greater Kailash saw tough fights. Even women candidates shone, with the BJP fielding 8 females.

Party reactions and future impact
BJP leaders cheered, saying people like their works on sanitation and infrastructure. “This shows their trusts in BJP’s service” one said. AAP admitted losses but claimed their strong base. Contrarily, Congress called their win as their “Ray of Hope”. No change to Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh (BJP, since April 2025), but BJP gains clout in committees.
For Delhi ITES, new councillor’s mean fixes for potholes, wastes and lights. BJP edge helps push project faster. Congress tried building momentum; AAP eyes recovery. With 2027 MCD polls nearing, parties will focus on promises. Voters also want a clean streets and good services and that’s the real test. This poll keeps Delhi Politics hot- the BJP leads locally but rivals fight back too as AAP and Congress is not out.
