Mumait Khan, who became famous for her appearance in “Dekh Le” from Munna Bhai MBBS, started her career as a dancer and actress as a child and rose to prominence in both HIndi and South Indian cinema. She became one of the most popular dancers for both item numbers and adult-themed roles at a young age, receiving nationwide fame when she was only 18 years old.
Life altering accident: Coma and neurological damage
Around the age of 30, Mumait was involved in a serious accident in her home that caused five of the nerves in her brain to rupture and leave her in a 15-day coma.
Doctors diagnosed Mumait with severe neurological damage and told her she had chronic seizures. They placed significant medical restrictions on her including no working, exercising, or lifting items, effectively stopping her from being able to work in her profession for almost seven years.
Mumait will tell anyone that she did not retire from acting and dancing; she was forced into a medical retirement.
Struggles and Recoveries
After being released from the hospital Mumait struggled for many months to regain her physical health after being on medication for her seizures, which also caused her to gain a lot of weight because doctors discouraged her from exercising.
Despite all of the physical and emotional tolls from being involved in a severe accident, Mumait has taken this time of recovery and self-reflection as an opportunity to become a better person. Instead of dwelling on the fact that she has lost almost seven years of her acting career, she has chosen to go to school and pursue her other passions beyond dancing and acting.
A New Chapter: Makeup and Training Academy
Mumait, after stepping away from acting for 7 years, discovered her affinity for makeup and hair when she was in the film industry, then decided to open WeLyke Academy, a makeup and hair training institution in Hyderabad to teach future artists.
Her institute offers short- and long-term professional programs and has partnered with banks to provide easy loan access for students.

Life after the accident: Personal reflections
Reflecting on her life after her accident, Mumait, a 40-year-old single woman who has chosen to be single, stated that she had to focus on her career when she achieved fame at a young age and then went through several health issues, which took away from her ability to form personal relationships.
While Mumait has been publicly criticized throughout her career for the decisions she made, she now believes she can make those decisions without needing to provide justification to anyone.
Looking forward, Mumait is living her life outside of the film industry; where she is a survivor and entrepreneur as opposed to simply an item performance actress with a major health scare that disrupted her career. She has redirected her energy into a new profession and continues to connect with the entertainment industry.
