Indian telecom companies are starting to roll out a new service that will show the caller’s name on receiving calls without the need for third-party apps like Truecaller. This will be a big change for people who use phones. Millions of cell phone users across the country will be able to see more accurate and safe information about potential calls thanks to the new feature.

The government and telecom regulator are telling big Indian telecom providers, such as Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea, how to set up this new system, which is called Calling Name Presentation (CNAP). Getting rid of annoying calls from unknown numbers and scam calls is the goal, and users should be able to see who is calling them right now.
How the New Service Works
People in India have used apps like Truecaller for a long time to figure out who is calling them. Names are shown on those apps based on files that people have contributed to, which might not always be correct or up to date. With the new CNAP system, when someone calls, the phone will show the caller’s real name that is listed with their cell service provider.
The name that appears on the screen comes from the information the caller gave when they registered their SIM card with the service provider. This makes the data more reliable because it comes from confirmed customer records instead of files that users have put together.
At this point, telecom companies have started testing this feature in some areas. The service should grow to serve more people across the country as the study goes on. The final national rollout should be finished by early 2026. After that, all mobile phone users in India will be able to use the new number name show feature without having to download a separate app.
Why this change is important
A big reason for this change is that users are getting more and more spam, scam, and fraud calls every day. By showing the caller’s real name, users can tell right away if a call is from someone they know and trust or someone who might be trying to scam them.
The new name comes from the telecom operator’s checked records, so it can help cut down on the number of times people are fooled by fake names or numbers. People think that this level of openness will make talking safer and more reliable for everyone.
The people in charge of telecoms think this is a big step toward making transmission safer in India. It also makes you less reliant on third-party apps, which can be risky for your safety and require extra rights on your phone.
Access and the Choice Not to Opt Out
Once it’s fully put out, the CNAP service will come with most new and current cell phone plans. Users will not have to get a new plan or add any extra software in order to use it. That is, the name display will show up immediately when someone calls, which will make the change easy to use.
On the other hand, telecom companies have said that people can choose not to use the service if they don’t want their names to be shown. This makes sure that users who want more privacy can still keep control of their personal data.
On the other hand, this new feature will only work on newer cell network technologies, like 4G and 5G. People who use older 2G networks might not be able to see the user name until those networks are updated or phased out.

An Important Change in Caller ID
With this launch, India is moving toward a time when official, correct caller information is built into the telecom network. The new method should make it easier to spot scam calls, help people decide if they should answer strange calls, and make fake caller IDs less useful.
In the long run, this could change how people talk to each other and keep themselves safe from scams or unwanted calls, all without using any extra apps. Users can still choose to use extra services for things like stopping spam, but the main show of the caller name will now be built into the phone network.
