A crucial step for infrastructure development and urban transportation has been taken as the Uttar Pradesh Avas Vikas Parishad (UP Housing Board) has green signalled a budget of ₹51 crore towards the construction of the second bridge on Hindon River. This decision is likely to change the way of everyday commuting for thousands of residents in the trans-Hindon part of Ghaziabad and will connect with Siddharth Vihar township, which is witnessing a steep rise in population, Indirapuram and Vasundhara.
Busting the Backup: A Four-Lane Resolution
The crossing near the Hindon barrage has remained a trouble spot when it comes to traffic jams for years. The current structure a single-lane bridge is the only gateway that directly connects the new residential colonies of Siddharth Vihar with already existing commercial complexes at Indirapuram, and was originally meant as one for irrigation (and not to carry heavy civilian traffic).
The successor project will replace this “stop-gap” setup with a four-lane, modern bridge that is up to 200 meters long. The mile-long lines of vehicles that have come to be a grudgingly accepted part of office-goers in the morning and school-buses in the evening should disappear when the bottleneck is broadened.
- Total Project Cost: ₹51 Crore
- Bridge Length: 200 Meters
- Capacity: 4 Lanes
- Key connectivity: Siddharth Vihar Sector 8/9 to Indirapuram/Vasundhara
Effect on Local Commute and Real Estate
The nod comes at a crucial time when Siddharth Vihar is reeling under the pressure of huge influx of people in its multistorey apartments. Presently the commuters have to taken a 5-km-long detour (delhi-Meerut expressway/DME/the GT Road (nH-9) choked with traffic) from industrial areas and other bottlenecks to go to the other side of the river.
The new bridge, when opened will serve as a “shortcut” and may cut travel time in these neighborhoods by 20 -25 minutes. Also, there will be a smooth exit for residents going to the Hindon Elevated Road while cutting short their journey towards East Delhi and UP Gate.
Local real estate pros say this new light rail could lead to a new wave of property values going up. Localities such as Pratap Vihar and Siddharth Vihar, that were once perceived to be “line-paar” (across the tracks) and slightly separated, are now getting part of the central NCR grid.

Part of a Larger Urban Vision
The ₹51 crore bridge isn’t an independent project. It’s the integral part of the overall plan for development of Hindon Riverfront, transforming its banks and opening up green spaces for public. The UP State Bridge Corporation will construct the bridge and work on it is expected to start after final vetting in an upcoming board meeting.
The project also synchronises with the proposed extensions of Hindon Elevated Road. To de-clog the arterial roads of Ghaziabad that cater to a population of more than 5 lakh in the nearby catchment area of the river, authorities are planning to construct multi-layered connectivity.
Timeline and Next Steps
The Housing Board has already obtained the in-principle approval and is gearing up for the tender process. If construction starts in the first quarter of 2026, officials believe a 12-to-15 month window to finish would be possible if no environmental or land-acquisition obstacles were encountered in the floodplain area.
To residents of Ghaziabad, the bridge is more than just another structure made of crisscrossed concrete and steel girders — it is a promise kept after decades that will give them an unhurried commute, in which traffic jams are memories left behind like a bad marriage.
