A new electric double-decker tourist bus service was launched by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday. The goal of the service is to give guests to the national capital a better way to see the sights. The project, called Dekho Meri Dilli, aims to promote eco-friendly travel and show off the city’s famous sites.
With the launch, the Delhi government is making a new push to position the capital as a lively global tourist destination that combines heritage sites, government buildings, and new infrastructure into a single well-planned trip.
A new ride with an eco-friendly goal
The new buses are all electric and were designed to make touring easy and enjoyable from every angle. There are about 63 seats on each double-decker bus. Tourists can enjoy Delhi’s wide boulevards and historic buildings from a different angle on the upper deck, which offers open, high views.
Officials said the service wasn’t a normal public transit route but rather a high end organised trip. There is a guide on every trip who talks about the city’s history, culture, and important buildings and structures.
They are part of the government’s plan to make transport more environmentally friendly. By choosing zero-emission cars, the city government hopes to reduce smog and make the city a better place for tourists to visit.

The route goes by famous national landmarks
The tourist route was carefully planned to pass by some of Delhi’s most famous places. The route passes important sights such as the National War Memorial, Bharat Mandapam, the New Parliament Complex, Rashtrapati Bhavan, Vijay Chowk, and the North and South Blocks.
People will also be able to see museums and cultural centers that are in the middle of the city. The trip starts at Delhi Haat, INA, which is also the main place where passengers board the service.
Authorities said that when the routes were planned, safety concerns such as high-voltage lines and tree branches were taken into account to ensure the tall double-decker trucks could move easily. The service’s goal is to give guests from all over the world a comprehensive look at Delhi’s political and historical center.

Ticket Prices and Information on How to Book
The Delhi government has kept ticket prices at what it calls “reasonable” levels, given that the service is high-quality.
It costs ₹500 plus GST to ride for an adult, and ₹300 plus GST to ride for a child between the ages of 5 and 10. Kids under 5 can ride for free.
The ticket price covers the guided walk, making it a full deal for seeing the sights. There are specific booths at tourist information centers all over the city and online where people can book tickets.
The service should run every day, with trips planned for the morning and afternoon, giving visitors more options for planning their days.
Government Plan to Bring in More Tourists
At the launch event, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stressed that the project is part of a larger plan to make Delhi a more popular tourist location. She said that the goal is to turn Delhi from a city where people just pass through into a tourist destination where people want to stay longer and see more.
Tourism officials also said that the double-decker buses are meant to get families, school groups, and foreign tourists interested in organised city trips again. People will also enjoy the service because double-decker buses were common in Delhi many years ago.
By bringing the idea back, this time in electric form, the government hopes to blend the appeal of the past with current sustainability goals.
A New Beginning for Tourism in Delhi
The Dekho Meri Dilli bus service started at a time when Indian towns were all racing to improve their tourist facilities. Delhi has a lot to offer, including historical sites, political landmarks, and cultural centers. This new service aims to package that experience in a way that is both easy and fun.
The double-decker bus will give locals and tourists alike a new way to see familiar places. For tourists, the capital is now easier to see from a higher place. They can see the grandeur of Rashtrapati Bhavan or the serious presence of the National War Memorial.
All eyes will be on how the public reacts to the service once the buses start running. That could be the start of more eco friendly, organised tourism services in the nation’s capital if it works out.
