Individuals applying for Indian passports will have to pay higher fees starting July 1, 2026, after the Union government approved revisions to the passport fee structure. The changes, introduced through an amendment to the Passports Rules, 1980, affect both ordinary and Tatkal passport applications, including fresh issuances and reissues.
The revised fee schedule was notified by the Ministry of External Affairs and published on June 25, 2026, with the updated rates becoming effective from July 1.

The cost of obtaining an ordinary fresh passport with 36 pages has been increased from ₹1,500 to ₹2,500. The same revised amount will apply to applicants seeking the reissue of a 36-page passport.
Applicants opting for the Tatkal service for either a fresh 36-page passport or its reissue will now be required to pay ₹5,000. The current Tatkal fee for this category stands at ₹3,500.
