Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a public rally during his visit to Chandigarh on September 11. The leaders of the BJP units of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh visited grounds in several sectors for the selection of a suitable site.
This will be Modi’s first rally in Chandigarh after becoming PM. The BJP, along with the Chandigarh Administration, is starting Swachh Chandigarh campaign from September 4. Cleanliness campaigns will be undertaken in all sectors in the city.
National General Secretary of BJP Anil Jain said the party units in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh had written to Modi to address a public rally when he comes to Chandigarh. “All the three units will organise the rally together. The BJP unit of Himachal Pradesh will also be included. While the PM is coming here for official events, party workers and residents will also like to hear him,” he said.
As per sources, the go-ahead for the rally was received following which a few sites were inspected. Apart from Jain, president of Punjab unit of BJP Kamal Sharma, Haryana party unit chief Subhash Barala and Chandigarh BJP unit president Sanjay Tandon visited Sector 17, 25 and 34 to see the sites. While the ground in Sector 17 has been rejected, a choice will be made between the other two. Kamal Sharma confirmed the rally plan. “PM Sh.Narendra Modi will address a public rally at Chandigarh on 11th September,” Sharma tweeted on Wednesday.
Modi will be in the city for the inauguration of the international terminal at the Chandigarh Airport. He will also attend the PGI convocation. The PM will inaugurate the housing complex constructed by Chandigarh Housing Board in Sector 63.
Tandon said BJP workers in all wards had been assigned duties for the cleanliness mission. He said, “The cleanliness drive will be started from 7 am on Friday. Party leaders in different wards have been assigned duties. Chandigarh Administration and other associations will be involved with the drive.”
UT Adviser Vijay Dev along with other senior officials of the Administration several different sectors in the city aboard a bus for making preparations for the PM’s visit. Starting from the Secretariat, the team headed towards the Bhargava Auditorium of PGI, thereafter moving to the flats built under the General Self Financing Housing Scheme-2008, Sector 63.
Dev said the main objective of the visit was to ascertain the ongoing preparations for the visit of the Prime Minister. Survey of the sectors that had been ignored for long was undertaken so that work could be initiated for sustained development, he said.
Punjab and Haryana Governor and UT Administrator Kaptan Singh Solanki had on Tuesday held a meeting with officials of the Administration to review the preparations for the PM’s visit.
