Designer duo Gauri and Nainika Karan’s love for the romantic look of legendary Hollywood heroine Audrey Hepburn is known to all, and their latest collection, which they presented at the Amazon India Fashion Week (AIFW) Spring-Summer 2016, took us back to the 1950s era.
Gauri and Nainika’s creations floated through layers of cascading diaphanous organza with easy fits and leggy silhouettes. The collection was exceedingly romantic and had been designed in a rainbow of pastel colours with a pop of red.The designers brought back the mod silhouettes, motifs of flowers and pastel colours in a manner fitting to the current times.
“Light and airy drop-waisted dresses, flirty hemlines, high collars, dramatic ruffles and a spattering of lush glossy pearls in vivid colours are some of the details that highlight the show. Dreamy floor length gowns have been cut in sheer flowing fabric to give an effortless grace and sensuality to the line” noted Gauri and Nainika in their collection note.
The sisters, popular for designing glamorous evening wear, also made use of pearls in abundance this time.
We love the play of ruffles in soft hues. Perfect for the sloop party, this is our go-to collection.
Also buzzing on Day 4 were Malini Ramani’s tie and dye saris which exuberated an added zest of summer at the show.
